Alexander Shokhin: Legalising Mining as Entrepreneurial Activity Is Crucial
Professor Alexander Shokhin, President of HSE University and the Russian Union of Industrialists and Entrepreneurs (RUIE), participated in the Digital Security Law Forum at MGIMO University. He discussed the integration of digital finance and digital financial assets into the country's economic landscape and advocated for the legalisation of cryptocurrency mining as a form of entrepreneurial activity.
Russian Researchers Improve Neural Networks' Spatial Navigation Performance
Researchers at HSE University, MISiS National University of Science and Technology, and the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute (AIRI) have developed an enhanced approach to reinforcement learning for neural networks tasked with navigation in three-dimensional environments. By using the attention mechanism, they managed to improve the performance of a graph neural network by 15%. The study results have been published in IEEE Access.
HSE University and Pobeda Airlines Launch Joint Competition
HSE Art and Design School, in collaboration with the Pobeda Airlines, has announced the start of a competition to create a new uniform design for flight attendants and representatives of the airline. Young professional designers, as well as students over 18 years old studying at Russian universities in full-time and part-time programmes in the field of ‘Design and Fashion,’ will have the opportunity to showcase their talent.
HSE University Launches New Master’s Degree Track ‘Plant Biotechnology’
The new track will be launched in September 2024 in the Master's Programme ‘Cell and Molecular Biotechnology’ at theHSE Faculty of Biology and Biotechnology. Students will master modern methods of plant genetic and cellular engineering, genetic and marker selection, genome editing, proteomics, phenomics, and acquire skills in the bioinformatic processing of plant genomic data. The educational trajectory will be implemented in collaboration with the All-Russia Research Institute of Agricultural Biotechnology.
Delegation from Vietnamese Universities Visits HSE University
In April 2024 Deputy Minister of Education and Training of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Hoang Minh Son and a delegation from top Vietnamese universities visited the HSE Pokrovka campus. The parties discussed prospects for the development of bilateral relations in higher education and identified priority areas for continued partnership.
‘You Need to Know a Lot of Ideas and Algorithms, Come Up with Something Unconventional’
A student of the HSE Faculty of Computer Science, Andrey Kuznetsov, has become the winner of the 2024 Data Fusion Contest. He took first place in solving geoanalytics tasks, and also won the special ‘Companion’ category. The competition took place as part of the 2024 Data Fusion conference on big data and AI technologies. Researchers from HSE University presented the results of their work and demonstrated applied developments at the conference.
HSE University Places Third among Russia’s Student Rowing Teams
At the end of the winter season of the Russian Student Rowing League, the men's and women's rowing teams from HSE University achieved their best results. The men's crew became the bronze medallist of the winter season, and the women were one step away from the pedestal—in fourth place.
‘Sincere Creativity, Creativity for Everyone Is True Art Indeed’
On April 25, 2024 the first graduates of the HSE Film Institute Master’s Programme ‘Film Production’ made their presentations at Gorky Film Studio. The academic supervisor of the programme, Polina Ilyina, proposed a speed dating format for the event. This allowed each student to present their script ideas to significant figures in the film industry, which will form the basis of future projects.
Totally Focused: Movie Nights at Pokrovka
In April, the HSE building on Pokrovka hosted two movie nights: one on the Day of Russian Animation, and other on the Day of Culture. The events allowed international students to get acquainted with Russian culture through works of cinematography. Each student enjoyed popcorn while studying detailed information about the movie on special printouts.
