HSE Students Win Google’s Anita Borg Scholarships
Two HSE students have won the Anita Borg Memorial Scholarship, founded by Google to support women studying computer technology. The scholarship is awarded for academic achievement, leadership qualities and interest in computer sciences.
One of the winners, Polina Kirienko — a first year student on the Applied Mathematics and Information Science programme at the Faculty of Computer Science — got interested in IT when she was going on 16, in the 9th Grade at school. In 10th grade she took part in the International Student Science Fair in England. When she was in 11th Grade her paper on Language Programming E-English won first prize at the Yandex for School’s Conference. At the moment Polina comes second in class in her course rankings.
The others scholarship winner is Ekaterina Ageeva, third year student on the Fundamental and Computational Linguistics programme at the Faculty of Humanities. In 2014 Ekaterina won the international competition for her part in Summer with Google where she worked on a new method for evaluating the quality of computer translations. She also was involved in improving the dictionary of Russian synonyms, developed a framework for computer musicology and mentored schoolchildren on the Google Code-In project and made a training site for academic writing which is used several HSE faculties.
In 2014 Ekaterina joined the list of Golden Vyshka winners in the Silver Fledgling category.
Polina and Ekaterina will each receive scholarships of 7,000 Euros and will go to Britain in the summer to meet other Anita Borg scholars and women leaders in the IT industry.

HSE Students Part of SAP Hackaton Winner Team
A team which includes several HSE students has won the SAP InnoJam hackaton in Moscow. The winners will now move forward to the SAP InnoJam in Europe this autumn.
FIFA President Awarded HSE Sports Management Graduates
Graduates of the joint FIFA/CIES – HSE programme in Sports Management have won the FIFA/CIES Network Prize for 2016 for their 360º Academy project. The winners were awarded their prize by Gianni Infantino.

Computer Science Faculty Students Win Yandex Hackathon
Second year Software Engineering students Anton Kondrashov and Alexander Lazarenko have taken first place in the Robot Battle hackathon organized by Yandex. Participants had to write a bot for any popular messaging service, that could quickly and easily solve users’ payment problems.
