HSE Business Incubator Named Incubator of the Year by the Internet Initiatives Development Fund
The HSE’s business incubator was recognized by the Internet Initiatives Development Fund (IIDF) as Incubator of the Year in the first youth internet entrepreneurship forum.
On May 23-24, Moscow hosted the first Russian Youth Internet Entrepreneurship Forum, at which participants discussed current issues in business education and creating ecosystems that encourage student entrepreneurship.
The forum drew tutors from Russian and international higher educational institutions, representatives of state agencies, venture investment experts, people who head business incubators and science and technology parks, SME development experts, as well as students and young entrepreneurs.
The event included lectures, case study discussions, panel debates about how to boost interest among students in setting up their own businesses, how to teach and support young entrepreneurs in the regions, and what role higher educational institutions play in this network. HSE Inc’s director Mikhail Erman looked at how to set up university business incubators.
Representatives of HSE also received awards in other categories. Irina Shafranskaya from HSE’s Campus in Perm was recognized for her contribution to the development of courses in internet entrepreneurship that the IIDF is rolling out to universities across the country (already up and running in 74 universities).
HSE MA students Ksenia Obukhova (Strategic Corporate Finance), Grigory Savitsky and Dmitry Soldatkin (Project Analysis, Investments, and Implementation Technologies), led by Faculty of Computer Science graduate Elen Tevanyan (Applied Mathematics and Informatics) were the winners in the Runway student contest, announced on the second day of the forum.
Their project was UDress – an online tailor’s where clients can order dresses to their own design and size thanks to an online model. This project started as an idea during a MALOLEGO elective course in Internet Entrepreneurship. The company had already successfully tested its business model, researched its consumer base, and served its first few dozen clients. Over 70 entries were received for this competition from 23 cities.
HSE Business Incubator is Russia’s first student incubator, set up as a subsidiary of HSE. HSE Inc provides a valuable platform for the development of entrepreneurship and supports startups, and is one of the world’s top 25 university incubators according to UBI Global’s 2015 ranking.
