HSE is ranked as a leading Russian university for Social Sciences, one of its traditional subjects. This year, it has entered the top 100 universities globally.
This year also marks HSE University’s first appearance in the Education ranking, entering in the 126–150 range.
HSE is also listed among the top 200 best universities in the world in the field of Business and Economics.
Vadim Vinogradov, Dean of the Faculty of Law, HSE University
This is the result of serious effort and investment by the university and the entire team of the Faculty of Law to develop degree programmes, research and international relations. Participation in strategic projects, support for the faculty’s publication activity, the development of research and expert infrastructure, comprehensive work with international partners and other measures taken in 2020 after the Faculty of Law’s restructuring have yielded results. Our high position in the ranking is recognition of the university’s scientific and academic reputation.
Daria Prisyazhniuk Deputy Dean for Academic Affairs, Faculty of Social Sciences
The improved standing of HSE University in the prestigious THE subject ranking in social sciences is a shared success. This achievement—being included among the top 100 leading universities worldwide—was made possible by the high professional level of the teachers and researchers of faculties such as the Faculty of Social Sciences, as well as university support programmes. Participation in international collaborations, publications in leading journals, and the development of popular educational products are they key to strengthening our reputation and recognition, both of which contribute to our position in the international rankings. We must continue developing and moving forward!
Isak Froumin, Head of the Institute of Education
We are very pleased with these results. Achieving a good position in the rankings requires truly outstanding research results and interesting degree programmes. In recent years, our researchers have been published in the most prestigious journals. I think this helped us enter the ranking. What’s more, such publications are the result of large projects implemented at the cutting edge of research. It is no coincidence that our best publications are related to such new topics as well-being in education, the assessment of educational results in higher education, and comparative studies of post-socialist education.
Overall, there are 12 Russian universities in the Social Sciences ranking, 11 in the Education category, 12 in Business & Economics, and two in Law.
The methodology behind the subject rankings (and the World University Rankings) is based on 13 indicators grouped into five categories. However, the weight of the indicators varies depending on the subject.
