Brand New HSE Day: Discussions about the Future, Student-Led Workshops, Music, and Sports
On September 10, students, faculty, alumni, and viewers from all over the world will celebrate one of HSE’s biggest events together. This year, for the first time ever, HSE Day will be held online. Read on to find out what activities await guests on the four virtual stages of the online campus.
For eight years in a row, HSE Day at Gorky Park has been the first place where prospective and first-year students immerse themselves in academic and student life at HSE. As for the rest of the HSE family, the event is the long-awaited reunion that concludes every summer. This year, organizers are not letting the pandemic put a damper on everyone’s favorite annual celebration: this year’s HSE Day—Brand New HSE Day—will be held online in an innovative, interactive format.
Andrey Lavrov, Director for Public Relations, HSE University
We were faced with the need to completely rethink the format and programme of everyone’s favourite HSE event, and we immediately understood that it would be different this year. Brand New HSE Day is a unique opportunity to immerse yourself in the atmosphere of a university no matter where you are or whether you are a student.
During the event, guests will be able to:
Find out what the future holds on the event’s biggest stage, HSE PRO Future
The main stage will feature discussions, talks by invited speakers, and videos about trends in the coming decades that are important for life at HSE University.
A talk by Alexander Chulok, Director of Centre for Science and Technology Foresight of the Institute for Statistical Studies and Economics of Knowledge, will open the PRO dialogue series. The series will focus on questions such as: Which professions will become obsolete and which ones are being transformed by technology? What should one do today in order to gain the necessary competencies in time? These questions apply to everyone, regardless of age. Mikhail Blinkin, Dean of the Faculty of Urban and Regional Development, and Nikolay Kurichev, Dean of the Faculty of Geography and Geoinformation Technology, will visit the studio to talk about whether residents will be able to influence the urban infrastructure and what shape processes of urbanization will take in the next decade.
Dmitry Dagayev, Head of the Laboratory of Sports Studies, will predict future sports champions, and Anna Kolchina, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Communications, Media, and Design, will share her thoughts on what will replace TV addiction in the future.
In addition, there will be a discussion between Rector Yaroslav Kuzminov and a special guest on the future of the economy, society, and HSE University.
The programme will also feature presentations of the HSE campuses in Nizhny Novgorod, St. Petersburg, and Perm; stories about the latest university news; new student life tips; historical building tours; and meetings with alumni.
Immerse yourself in university life at the Meet HSE University stage
Visitors to this stage will go on a virtual historical tour through the buildings of HSE and learn about the University’s countless faculties.
From the Social Lift programme to student government, from the features of academics at HSE and the Lyceum to research projects, from supervision to field projects across Russia, from online education to academic mobility—all aspects of HSE life will be presented here. By the way, the stage hosts will be Victoria Zemlyak and Vladimir Mikheev, the creators of the popular science podcast Neurochai (or ‘Neurotea’) and graduates of HSE’s master's programme in Cognitive Sciences: From Neuron to Cognition, who know the trajectory of education at HSE from the inside.
Hear about opportunities for international students at the HSE International stage
What programmes does HSE University offer for international students? Is it possible to apply to HSE through the Student Olympiad? What are the most popular master's programmes among international applicants? The speakers of the HSE International stage will share their answers to these questions and more.
HSE’s Vice Rector in charge of HSE’s international relations, Ivan Prostakov, will deliver opening remarks, and then viewers will learn firsthand what foreign students think about their Russian alma mater, learn about the Summer University, figure out what opportunities HSE has to offer for studying Russian and foreign languages, and have the opportunity to ask university representatives questions. The working language of the stage is English with Russian subtitles.
Have fun with STUDLIFE
Be sure to visit Brand New HSE Day’s most vibrant, creative, and active stage, Studlife. Student organization members will acquaint guests with HSE’s extra-curricular offerings. The programme features an intriguing ‘roast’ of HSE’s mascot, the Crow, a dynamic Dance Battle, and musical performances with unusual musical instruments. Student organizations have prepared many online activities that will only be available on the day of the broadcast: an online game dedicated to waste sorting at HSE; master classes in dance, yoga, sign language and cooking; and, of course, the ‘Path of the First-Year’ quest.
But that's not all! The details of the first ‘distributed-format’ HSE Pulse race, as well as the long-awaited names of the concert headliners, will be announced soon. For updates, follow Brand New HSE Day on social media!
